Tipping Point Painting

An artist may spend days, weeks, months, even years on a work of art. It isn't a product, it is a concretion of the human experience, a visual essay of the existential travail most define as life. It infuses a fragment of magic into the mundane. Art is a contemplative experience, not much is gained from the cursory glance. The more one looks, the more one sees - and understands. Therefore abstract artists are driven to express what they feel and interpret what they see and feel into a cohesive and emotive painting. Linnea Toney Leeming is an artist based in Rhode Island whose paintings have been featured in many solo and group exhibitions nationally. The central themes inherent in her abstract works are experimentation, innovation, and evolution. During the Covid pandemic starting in 2020, she started to increase the amount of ‘history’, or texture she wanted visible on her work. It seemed necessary as the threat of disease and violence increased throughout the first year. Since then she has enjoyed both the process and the presence of how the paintings are built up. Listening to her unconscious and making calculated decisions that are fueled by issues of color and space, line, pattern, and texture overlap and merge into unified compositions. She hopes for an emotional response from the viewer not unlike the emotion she emits in the making of her paintings.
