Art Description

Painting: Oil, Paint on Wood.

My work explores the things we cannot easily explain : the science of time and space and our physical and emotional experience of it as an entity of nature.

English is my only language but for my titles I have chosen words that are not easily translated into English. I have done this because often this highlights feelings that we have withn our culture that we can only explain through art.

'Toska' is a Russian word. Vladmir Nabokov describes it thus: “No single word in English renders all the shades of toska. At its deepest and most painful, it is a sensation of great spiritual anguish, often without any specific cause. At less morbid levels it is a dull ache of the soul, a longing with nothing to long for, a sick pining, a vague restlessness, mental throes, yearning. In particular cases it may be the desire for somebody or something specific, nostalgia, love-sickness. At the lowest level it grades into ennui, boredom.”
