"I painted this Cornish floral meadow painting on canvas with a mixture of acrylics, acrylic mediums and gesso for a textured matte finish. This painting was inspired by a cliff walk on the coastal path in Cornwall. The sun was burning hot and relentless and I sketched the wildflowers as we stopped for a break amongst the long grass. The hum of insects was all around and there was barely a breeze. The colours were beautiful and muted and I tried to capture this in the painting." Elisabeth paints primarily from memory and with imagination, always starting with the feeling of a particular place in mind but allowing the painting to take on a form of its own as she build up layers, colours and texture. She finds particular pleasure in capturing and exploring the unpredictable rugged beauty of the coast and countryside of North Yorkshire and the contrasting colour and light of the Cornish coastline. She paints primarily with acrylics and gesso as these mediums allow her to build up texture and layers quickly to then work on expressing the feel of the piece. She alternates between knives, brushes and sponges to create the desired effect. This painting is signed by the artist. It is painted on canvas board so can be easily framed. It is varnished in a satin varnish for protection.
