Tree of Life Painting

This work is a microcosm of my style. It's a message from my subconscious muse. It’s as if I’m a channel of sorts. The process is akin to automatic intuitive painting. Between this finished product and the gesso is a layer of my personal hybrid gesso which is basically a watered down acrylic automatic intuitive abstract painting. As that portion settles and dries I spend time in deep thought observing the depth of color and texture. That initial layer and a voice or thought-form from within speaks to me and shows me a starting point, or direction to go in. In this particular piece I was being prompted to paint as though I was creating an under water seascape. This is what I love about the process. Consciously I stay a few steps behind the journey my inspiration leads me on. I find this aspect so interesting about my process. I love the gift of being a medium for whatever imagery comes through in my work. I rarely choose the subject matter from beginning to end. I am but the vessel for the infinite universal consciousness that speaks through my art. I consciously chose the pigments, mixed those I wanted to, creating a more diverse pallet of colors, then started to paint an ocean floor and the top of the sea. A thousand brushstrokes later and voila. I see a figure being led down a path by an angelic being. The winding trail represents life and leads back to a pool of life giving water, which impossibly rests as a layer on top of this old growth of which has its own unknown world. The entrance to this world begins at the end of the long and winding path with the tree of knowledge. Many are above and below, in front and behind. All are right on time. Finally, there is an amazingly impossible, yet equally impressive image when this painting is flipped upside down. Enjoy. What I find most rewarding is that I get to enjoy both the journey and the destination. When I put the brush down I finally get to behold what I’ve created.
