ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Tumulto (Turmoil) Mixed media on canvas cm. 100x125 - 2019 This painting is part of a larger collection that the author has collected under the name of CHIMERE. These works are rooted in post-war Italian “Informale” movement and American Abstract Expressionism and are distinguished by a strong lyrical element in their composition and overall palette. As in all the paintings by Francesco D'Adamo, a pronounced musical aura is evident in all gestures and marks that cross the painting surface, as well as the union of traditional and contemporary techniques in its construction. As the titles of the paintings also suggest, the lyrical element is always accompanied by a narrative value, although deconstructed and reassembled in numerous different suggestions. The painting is signed on back and front and comes ready to hang. It's painted also over the edges and it has a glossy finish. It's protected with final antiuv varnish and it's shipped by the artist in a wooden crate ensuring a safe delivery for the work. A note from the Artist: because of its technique (tempera grassa, oils and varnishes) the painting is very sensitive to the light it receives, changing brightness and color temperature depending on the light source in a more evident way than a standard painting. To appear as shown in the photos it needs to receive a good amount of light, whether natural or artificial. An example of this shift can be seen at the beginning and at the end of the additional video, when the painting enter and leave the bright area of the easel. Painter and musician, Francesco D’Adamo was born in Siena, Italy in 1979 and grew up in Termoli. His first approaches with painting came during his childhood by taking private classes, but it was only after 2006, when he moved to Bologna, that painting came back as a constant and fundamental presence in his life and over time became his main activity. The following years saw his first exhibitions in the city and the participation at various art fairs and events over Europe and Asia. This first decade of painting research brought on Francesco the interest of collectors and art lovers from all over the world and culminated in the prominent solo exhibitions Chimere (2017), Discanto (2018) and Dyssomnia (2019, Hong Kong). These first ten years of work came together in the book “Decade,” published in 2021. His painting research is rooted in the Italian informalism and American abstract expressionism, with particular emphasis to a continuous dialogue between visual and musical language. The sign and its rhythm, layered surfaces, a strong palette and the use of different techniques, they all flow together to create a lyrical and yet deeply concrete image.
