Turning Sword, Genesis, Expulsion from Eden, Faith Painting

This painting was inspired by time spent studying Genesis and depicts the flaming sword as explained below: Genesis 3:24 "So He drove out the man; and He placed at the east of the Garden of Eden cherubim and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life."" Genesis explains how sin and evil came to infect our world. Adam and Eve fall into sin by disobeying God's command. As a result of eating the forbidden fruit their physical condition changes and from their spiritual death they become separated from God. Mortal humanity must now experience disease, pain, suffering and death. Adam and Eve listened to the serpent of lies and yielded into sin, however the death penalty is not immediately enforced upon their transgression. A ransom was found as Jesus Christ, the begotten Son volunteered to take the sin of man and to atone for fallen humanity. Without Jesus there would have been no pardon for sin. Had God pardoned Adam's sin without an atonement, sin would have been immortalized, and would have been perpetuated with a boldness that would have been without restraint (The Review and Herald, April 23, 1901). Through Jesus Christ we have gained access by faith into his grace in which we now stand (Romans 5:2).
