Painting: Digital on Paper.
Serdar Akkaya’s oeuvre consists of letters and sometimes numbers, accompanied by figures.
The letters’ form is emphasized here, rather than merely aiming to symbolize particular sounds to communicate.
These geometrical shapes are transparent, to convey disordered meanings and hierarchy, and this synchronicity invites the audience to the present moment.
The intellect investigates the meanings, and tries to put the letters into order to catch the meaning, if any. Meanwhile, the eye travels into a space, looking into the realm created without the rules of perspective. By creating a newborn language of the artist, the known language of intellect disappears.
The artist is using the weight and shapes of the letters or numbers to bring specific concepts and effects to his paintings. We find some hidden rooms of subconscious where the giant letters are superimposed on each other.
