About The Artwork

This abstract cityscape is made up of diametrically opposed features. We see both the hard and soft lines of a city, grayness opposed by vibrant red, and a dark, foreboding sense contrasted by the brightness existing within the city. Elements of light posts, windows, buildings, and signs illuminate this industrial, post-apocalyptic-style city, both light and dark at the same time. There is a sense of rising smoke or steam columns reaching up into the sky that have an ironic decorative quality. Several orbs exist in the sky, leaving interpretation open. Is this a city on an unknown planet, or right here in our future? Are these orbs figural in nature? The abstraction requires interpretation from the viewer. Comes with hanging hardware in a custom-built pine frame.

Maddy Kaudy is a St. Paul-based painter and printmaker. She believes that the experience of art is a celebration of our humanness. The full spectrum of this encounter begins with what she derives as an artist in the process of creating. The cycle is completed once the audience brings work to its final culmination with the acts of viewing, interacting, and reacting. This contact is fluid through time, and though her works are forged by her hands, they draw on her internalization of the spiritual nature of shared humanity. This continually evolving exchange allows both artist and viewer to learn about one another and the self via shared experience in this temporary existence. Maddy believes in the infinite nature of expression and her vocation is to act as conduit between a driving artistic force outside of the self and the people who make up her audience. Her responsibility is to bring original works into physical manifestation and to share fearlessly and with gratitude.
