About The Artwork
Untitled (No. 6) is part of an ongoing series of abstracts inspired by the emotional impact and expressivity of paintings by Mark Rothko, Clyfford Still, Barnett Newman, and many others. I paint starting with an idea or feeling that I want to explore, and then let the painting guide me towards its own completion. The process is much like a tense dialog between the canvas and the artist, which finishes when I feel there is nothing else I can "fix". Note the colours might vary slightly depending on the computer monitor configuration.

My work explores issues of identity, meaning, and the passage of time, and is often informed by conceptual art and thinking, as well as ideas and conception of space and material interactions taken from my background as a theoretical physicist. Some very strong influences are abstract expressionism, particularly color field painters, European informal artists, such as Antoni Tàpies and Miquel Barceló, and Gerhard Richter.
