ABOUT THE ARTWORK
My practice is concerned with abstraction constructed by formal elements and the way in which relationships between these forms transpire. Each painting studies how these formal qualities sit within a frame and how the utilisation of various mediums permits variety of depth within the works. The potential of constructed shapes, line, colour and composition, derived from subconscious memory, or descending with concern for the previous mark are all great motivations. My paintings explore the concept of employing and manipulating elements found in objects of the everyday until they become something of their own. I want to discover their potential whilst entirely individual in an alternate territory to their usual.

Lucy Clitheroe (b. in 1996 in United Kingdom) is an abstract painter. Her works consider the potential relationships between forms of the everyday, or those from the subconscious. Lucy hopes to determine new territory for these shapes, lines and compositions whilst creating works; challenging how we view normality when abstracted. Her paintings are motivated too, by the manipulation of her mediums- how acrylic and oils offer variation and how endless colour combination suggests mood within a painting. Lucy attended The Glasgow School of Art, where she is a recent graduate of Painting and Printmaking. She has also studied in Vienna, as a student of Abstract Art at The Academy of Fine Art. She currently lives and works in Glasgow.
