About The Artwork
This painting was built up from layers of previous drawings and paintings, to the point where a texture developed and the background attained a rough indeterminate nature. As a final step, a single calligraphic figure was applied to tie all the elements together and give a sense of spatial depth. Like a living being, the calligraphic figure reacts to the pressures and stresses of the environment in which it resides. And like a living being, it both influences, and is influenced by, that environment.
