About The Artwork

Artist-Harisadhan Dey Title-Urban Spring Size-30 x 30 inch Medium-Oil on canvas Year 2017 My art has always been inspired by my muse. My muse is my inspiration who excites my imagination and fuels my creativity. She is an abstraction, created within me by innumerable impressions of beauty. She is ever-changing, ever-evolving in many shades of moods, ranging from innocence to seductive to divine. She guides me from soft and mellow harmony of forms to bold and aggressive statements. My muse kindles the ambition in me to attain greater heights in expression and sustains an intense passion to create incessantly, make and break conventions, to be my own multifaceted self. Even when I am collaborating with models, my muse makes me see beyond the reality of a human form so that the creation transcends the reality of physical senses. In the moments of self-doubt, dry spells and frustrating absence of creative ideas, my muse lifts my spirits and leads me along my artistic journey as a companion like no other.

Kolkata-based figurative artist studying landscapes, cityscapes, human figures and nudes. As a young boy from a seaside village of West Bengal, Harisadhan Dey was in awe of the real-life drama of village people. Religious social rituals, village shrines, living images of the famous Gangasagar mela cast a spell on him. Harisadhan works closely with rhythms and realities related to the rural masses. The colours of traditional rituals and celebrations invoke a deep sense of spirituality in him. Chiaroscuro of nature, human form and expression is a hallmark of his work. Harisadhan's paintings is steadfastly seeking its cultural and spiritual roots.
