This painting is part of the Chicane Series, inspired by my love and excitement for Formula 1 and motor sports. I love the curves and shapes that the circuits make, the marks that the tyres create as they drift around the corners, and the variety of colours of the cars. I try to embody the principle of whatever is behind my inspiration. In this instance, the speed and finesse of a motor sports race informs the way in which I approach a painting. If I can be so bold as to compare a race to my painting process - it requires a combination of trusting my instincts and also carefully calculating my next move and what the potential result of it will be. I hope the viewers feel a sense of flow, an appreciation for the twists and turns of life and are uplifted by the burst of colour.

Fatima Mian is a self-taught Photographer and Painter who was born in London, where she lives and works. She has a BA in Graphic Design and is passionate about all things that fuel creativity. Creating art, whether in the form of Photos or Painting allows her a moment of calm in her otherwise hectic London life and to transform the seemingly ordinary into something spectacular. Fatima discovered her love for painting through her photography. Taking a break from her other passion of working with children, she embarked on a journey of self- discovery, travelling the world with her camera as her companion. She found paying close attention to her surroundings in search of a perfect photograph gave her a sense of stillness and freedom. “By immersing myself in areas of natural beauty, I learnt how to create abstractions from my experiences of the landscape – associating not only shapes and colours of what was in front of me, but the personal connection I had with the environment I was in.” At her core, Fatima is an intuitive painter who creates work in the style of abstract expressionism. “Inspiration comes to me in many forms, travel, music, emotions, nature, I believe that art ultimately embodies the spiritual and emotional state of the artist, and in order to create meaningful artwork, one has to have the courage to be vulnerable and make marks on instinct” She approaches each piece with an open mind and enjoys being led through creative process through intuition. Approaching art almost like a form of meditation, she takes a moment to feel the energy, rhythm or flow, allowing music and memories to guide her to create. “A combination of many elements bring together a final piece, by creating a direct dialogue between my experiences and the marks I make, I hope to create work that people can feel a connection with” Fatima uses materials that allow her to experiment and be playful with a sense of flow; a mixture of acrylics, ink and soft pastels mostly on canvas. Fatima was shortlisted for Landscape Photographer of the Year 2020. She was also a finalist in The Independent Photographers ‘People’ Aware and featured in their ‘Talents of the Year’ Magazine. She has exhibited her artwork in a solo exhibition and has also been part of group exhibitions in London, Cornwall and Cairo.
