VIEW IN MY ROOM
My painting of 'Venus Fly Trap' Original oil on canvas 60"(h)x36"(w) comes from my "Series of Pun Paintings". When I first thought of the idea of this painting, Botticelli's 'Birth of Venus' was the first concept that came to mind. Although it was hard to deface a Botticelli painting, I felt that it had to be done. I added the fly face to her using a combination of colors, one was a gold paint with actual gold in the paint, so it really gives off a shiny glow. The bear trap was the perfect fit for the stance that she is in, as well as a similar shape to the shell front he original. In my Humorous works AKA my “Pun Paintings” I deconstruct the English language by use of the pun. I was once told “it isn’t what you paint, but how you paint it.” I became bound and determined to prove that statement wrong. In my work it is about what I paint and how I paint it that makes it jump off the canvas. My Pun Paintings appeal to me personally for the humorous aspect and the witty form of intellectual play. I enjoy the creative process of making the familiar bizarre and the bizarre familiar.
