ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Village in a Tree is a biomorphic abstract expressionistic acrylic diptych painting with an Asian influence. It is composed of two separate panels, each 24 x 24. It is signed by Marlene Struss, wired for hanging, and painted on panel on a cradled wood structure whose edges are lightly varnished to complement the painting. The dominant colors are gold, yellow, and green. After I became disillusioned with fortune cookies, I turned to worshipping trees as my religion. They are dazzlingly beautiful and exude strength and protection. I imagine there is a lot of happy activity going on within the core of a tree that keeps it content and confident to bask in the sun and the rain year in and year out with confidence and serenity.

I'm a California girl, agnostic product of Catholic schools, and inveterate artist. My art degree is from University of California at Santa Barbara, where I am blessed to still be. Since college I've created bodies of work in pastel, surrealistic collage, abstract collage, digital painting and acrylic painting at present. I've shown mostly locally but have branched out as far as Russia, England, and South Korea, and my work has appeared in several international art books.
