About The Artwork

Inspired by the artist's personal collection of cherished artifacts, "Vintage Garden Party" is a celebration of the beauty found in the randomness of life. Like a patchwork quilt, it stitches together fragments of memory and meaning, inviting viewers to lose themselves in the intricate dance of past and present. This narrative still life invites viewers to engage with a tapestry of memories. At the heart of the composition rests an eclectic array of vintage wares, each pointing to a place in time. A delicate tea cup, weathered stein, and aged kettle are just a few of the landmark pieces that evoke a sense of history and tradition. Amidst this curated chaos, bursts of bright-colored fruit punctuate the scene with the vitality of the present moment, offering an unexpected contrast to the antique treasures that surround them. Beneath it all lies an imaginative paring of floral patterns and geometric passes of color, echoing the beauty of an open window upon a garden moving through time. The palette of colors are an orchestration of lemon yellow, crisp white, verdant greens, and fiery oranges, with whispers of red, pink, and violet. Bathed in the gentle glow of sunlight, every hue shimmers with life, infusing the scene with a sense of magical delight.

ARTISTS STATEMENT: I observe, and participate in, the change of hues. I stand alone in a perspective—influenced by the roads and detours that I’ve chosen. The subjects I interpret on canvas dance with tradition, but underneath exists an individual search for freedom. As a creator, I’ve always been interested in working with color. I see my life as having a palette of its own and I seek to have the chroma of my experiences come through in my paintings. Over time, I’ve realized the only way to achieve this goal is to risk exposure—to unveil my simplified forms to the viewer. Whether the forms operate within the context of landscape or still life, the resulting narrative is always a story of merit, regardless of public perception or understanding. BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION: I was born in Vancouver, BC in 1958 and then moved to California which is where my parents originally met. I lived there until I was 6 when my family moved across the US to New Jersey for my father's work. I grew up in a creative family and pursued art in college only to leave it upon graduation, dabbling with it over the years that followed. In 2010 I returned to painting on a more committed basis. This was spawned by some significant life changes and painting became my respite. I still reside in New Jersey and as an artist I appreciate the proximity to both Philadelphia and New York City. I've been showing my work since 2011 and continue to do so.
