The Voynich Manuscript, acquired by Wilfrid Voynich in 1912, remains an unsolved mystery. With around 240 pages of an unknown script and intriguing illustrations, the manuscript defies deciphering due to its unattributed characters. Theories about its origin range from secret scripts to forgeries. Despite numerous failed attempts to break the code, it continues to baffle the scientific community. My new artworks draw inspiration from the Voynich Manuscript, delving into its mystical elements. Through abstract depictions of unknown plants, fantastical creatures, and captivating star charts, the paintings create enigmatic worlds. Incorporating mysterious symbols and an imaginary script, the artworks add an extra layer of inscrutability. They aim to transfer the manuscript's mysterious atmosphere onto canvas, sparking a dialogue between past and present, reality and fiction. This painterly interpretation encourages viewers to immerse themselves in the unknown, much like deciphering the original manuscript. The artworks serve as visual poetry, expressing fascination for the unexplained and mysterious facets of the Voynich Manuscript's history. - painted in mixed colors in acrylic, charcoal, oil sticks, and pencil on deep canvas - different markers, signs and lines - worked in several layers - a thin layer of semi-gloss varnish protects the artwork - dated and signed on front and back - accompanied with a certificate of authenticity

Jutta Rika Bressem studied painting and design at the Academy of Design in Wiesbaden and graduated MFA. Since then she works as a professional artist and lives on the coast of the Northern Sea in Germany. She is a member of the Professional Association of Visual Artists and regularly takes part in national and international exhibitions (America, Japan, Italy, France, Poland, Switzerland, and in many German cities) Personal Artist-Statement My art is a reflection of my deepest passion for painting and an exploration of the boundaries of abstract expression. As a professional painter with a Master of Fine Arts degree, I pursue a multifaceted mission that unites abstract modernity and contemporary trends. My works, predominantly created in acrylic and mixed media, are a harmonious interplay of bold and delicate brushstrokes, creating an expressive and dynamic visual language. I draw significant inspiration from artists like Joan Mitchell and Emil Schumacher, renowned for their groundbreaking contributions to abstract art. Like Mitchell, I strive to capture my innermost emotions and personal experiences on the canvas. Her powerful brushstrokes and vibrant color compositions serve as a wellspring of inspiration for me, shaping my own expressive language.Simultaneously, I find a role model in Emil Schumacher, whose abstract works evoke a raw and energetic atmosphere. His experimental approach and use of materials have influenced my style, encouraging me to explore different techniques and mediums. Through the incorporation of mixed media, such as collages, pastel chalks, or ink, I can add an extra dimension to my works and delve into a broader range of textures and expressive possibilities. In my creations, I construct abstract compositions that generate an emotional resonance through their expressive quality and interplay of colors, shapes, and lines. My brushstrokes fluctuate between bold, energetic movements and finer, subtle nuances, creating a visually captivating and multilayered narrative. The canvas becomes a space where my thoughts, feelings, and memories manifest, providing the viewer with room for their own interpretations.Within my artistic practice, I strive to bridge the visible and the invisible. My works embody an inner journey, wherein I explore the limits of the abstract and search for a universal language that transcends words and conventions.
