ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Off the coast of Eleuthera in the Bahamas is Harbour Island. The shallow lagoon between Harbour Island and Eleuthera is where the locals drop anchor. The anchored boats come to rest on the sandy bottom during low tide and wait to be used again once the high tide sweeps in and floats them off their resting place. Gallery-wrapped canvas, ready to hang.

Marc Ward is a Florida born artist that resides in the mountains of East Tennessee. Though he now lives on sloped ground, much of his work is still shaped by the expansive views of his home state’s flat land and water. During the 70’s and 80’s his three dimensional work was exhibited in numerous group and solo exhibitions including the Smithsonian Institute’s Renwick Gallery. The 90’s and 00’s saw he and his wife Kathy, operate their own gallery that represented the work of 150+ artists and craftspeople. Also, during this period, Marc started a firm that produces combustion equipment for artists and industrial users such as SpaceX. His Fine Art photographic work has garnered national and international awards and is included in collections from across the globe. Marc’s science based photography is used by major corporations such as Microsoft and Intel and used by such publications as National Geographic. Marc Ward’s bold and unique painting style is a result of an innovative technique that he calls, “Blended Media”. Sketching and laying down color fields and shapes usually begins on a tablet or computer screen. This preliminary work is transferred to canvas and then further refined with acrylics, art crayon, and pencil. Layers of gels and varnish invite light to play across the canvas and illuminate Marc’s colorful palette.
