A portrait of a young man waiting for someone at the railway station continues Zakhar’s experiments with reflection of human feelings and states by creating a general mood with composition, lines, shadows and colours, but without getting into details while depicting human face or facial features. Bright morning sunlight adds a contrast to the artwork, which enhances the contrasting feelings of calmness and alertness, a typical mixture for someone waiting to meet a person not seen for a long time. This expressive oil painting continues the series of “Old Photographs”, where the artist with bold and heavy brushstrokes gives a second life to the retro black and white images taken on camera some 50 – 60 years ago. The artwork will be shipped carefully and safely rolled in a durable tube because of its large size. Rolled artworks can easily be re-stretched.

Art, to me, is a profound exploration of the world that surrounds us - a journey of discovery, experience, and self-understanding. It is a medium through which I unravel the essence of things - their colors, forms, and the interplay between them. I believe in the power of simplicity, in the art of removing the excess and uncovering the necessary, much like a sculptor chisels away at stone. In my paintings, I strive to distill forms to their purest essence, reaching a point where nothing else can be removed without sacrificing meaning. The "necessary" elements, as I perceive them, remain, serving as conduits for my impressions and self-reflections on the subject at hand. My aim is not to depict something specific but rather to transfer the emotions and thoughts evoked by the object onto the canvas. I seek artistic forms that can boldly and vividly capture the essence of these feelings, rather than mere visual representation. In this pursuit, my work often exists on the precipice between figurative and abstract art - place where emotions take precedence over strict visual interpretation. Through my art, I invite viewers to embark on their own contemplative journeys, to interpret the subtleties and engage with the interplay of emotions and forms. Each brushstroke carries the weight of my perceptions, inviting you to join me in this exploration of the human experience.
