ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Walking2, 2013 acrylic on handmade Thai mulberry paper (kada sa), deckled edge, 21 x 31 in., 55 x 77 cm. More on the ‘walking’ theme. I kept the background simple to bring out the strength of the body language. The paper I use is a traditional mulberry paper handmade in Thailand. It’s a thick parchment paper, strong yet pliable. The paper is made to this size to get the unique, uneven deckled edges which adds to the overall textural effect. The close up pictures are to get a feel for the texture and brush strokes of the painting. Please note the natural uneven edges and texture, thickness of the paper. In this case there are some thin paper areas, see 2nd close up picture above the 2 ladies’ heads where the grey backing can be seen through the paper. I'm Canadian born now residing in Malaysia. I've been working professionally as an artist since 1980 ish… time flies. I have exhibited my paintings in Vancouver and coastal B.C., Bangkok, Singapore & Malaysia, areas I’ve lived in over time. Now I do it all online. I’ve traveled extensively over the years and you’ll see that people, places and cultures are a recurring theme in my art. I attach importance to papers I use for my paintings. Some are done on acid free watercolour papers, from 180lb weight to 300lb. I also use handmade parchment type papers. These are thick yet pliable, strong, with deckled edge that add to the look of my paintings. I’m still a passionate guy. I’m passionate about life and people, passionate about art and painting. And I feel really at my best when I’m putting all these things down on paper. I only wish I had more time to delve into all these activities of mine. But I work with what I have. My health sucks so I’m slowing down. And there's more: book illustration, portrait, comic strip, caricature. I also work with camera and computer, to create the images brush strokes just can't deliver. So follow my brush work and hopefully you’ll find that special painting meant just for you.
