About The Artwork

The ocean, waves, surf has always been a draw for me growing up in land locked Colorado I was always excited and drawn to big waves. They are beautiful and powerful, delicate and strong. In this painting I wanted to create that energy and also give a sense of transparency in the back of the wave with the yellow late afternoon sun shining through the breaking wave.

My work shows people the wonder and beauty of this world and reminds us all to cherish and protect it. https://www.timmcguireimages.com https://www.instagram.com/timothymmcguire/ https://www.facebook.com/TimMcGuireImages "Variety is the spice of life." I'm a Photographer and Painter born in Pueblo, Colorado, USA (1966). My father was a landscape architect and my mother, a teacher and librarian. Both of them practiced creative arts and crafts outside of their professions. Mom has painted for as long as I can remember and Dad always has some new or continuing creative interest he's working on (drawing, painting, stained glass, wood working...). I have one older brother and one younger. While growing up in the 70's and 80's we lived in a couple small towns in South Central and Southwest Colorado, Del Norte and Cortez. There was one short stint in Vermont when I was 2 or 3 and another in Northern California when I was 9 years old but both times we came back fairly quickly to Colorado. I started my obsession with photography in high school. I was very inspired by Ansel Adams at that time. After studying photography and graphic arts at college in Flagstaff, Arizona I moved to Seattle, Washington where I've lived for 32 years, mostly working in commercial and editorial photography. I am an artist and always have been. There are many other artists who have influenced me over my career. Ansel Adams, Richard Avedon, Annie Leibovitz, Gregory Heisler, Patrick Demarchelier, Albert Watson, Elliot Erwitt, Georgia O'Keefe, Andrew Wyeth, Ed Mell, and many more. In painting I am mostly self taught except for a handful of classes and workshops I've taken over the years and whatever I absorbed from my mother and grandmother in all the time I watched their painting. My photography was learned through years of formal training in high school and college and tutelage while working with over 100 different photographers when I was a freelance photographers assistant... that and a lot of practice and perseverance over 35+ years. My art photography is mostly nature inspired though I often think I should try creating more figurative work from time to time. Maybe I'll change it up one day... you never know. :-) My main drive in my art is to use photography, painting, and film making as vehicles for exploring and learning. To learn, to understand, to share. There is magic on this Earth and I see it and experience it all the time.
