This painting is part of a new series inspired by nostalgia, the 80s and the beauty of simplicity in art. The images portray an adolescent attitude with a mundane, yet well composed style of brush stroke. These paintings are made with a conscious yet random thought process, entirely relying on the images in the back of my head, and the little things that remind me of my childhood.

Rosy Sbrana graduated with B.A. (Hons) in Fine Art at the Michaelis School of Fine Art, University of Cape Town. Sbrana further graduated with a Masters degree in Interactive Media Design at the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. While acquiring formal skills and experience, Sbrana steadily built up her body of work as a practicing artist, particularly in writing and painting coupled with new media applications as she specializes in the field. She is now a Multimedia Lecturer in Botswana and continues to produce artwork in her own right. “I have always been interested in creating artworks that employ beautiful images in order to represent ideas that are aesthetically pleasing but may resonate emotions of loss, darkness and nostalgia. I like to think that glitter is my main artistic medium because it is not only an extremely challenging medium to work with, but also visually captivating and enchanting …Glitter has an infinite quality about it; when i work with it, I often feel that my creative methodologies are inspired by a cosmic energy that allows me to translates the essence of my existence though art . If I were to describe my work in general, I would say that is a synergy or brilliance, melancholy, science and romance…” Sbrana has worked in various disciplines including interactive technologies, where she focuses on the manipulation of images in 3 dimensional spaces. She studies innovative technologies that challenge our imagination as she attempts to create spaces where the viewers literally become part of of the artwork…Sbrana is currently working on a collection of pieces that focus on our physical, emotional and scientific relation to the Universe and its constellations…
