White Lupine on Green Painting

This little soft green piece is really quite lovely in its simplicity. It features a vase of white lupine and other meadow flowers drawn in gold toned ochre crayon and then painted in my customary two-dimensional style using lovely chalky opaque gouache paint. The colors all work very harmoniously, the background painted in gently luminous mint and sage, just approaching lime in places. All of the blossoms in the vase are a crisp cool white, but soft edges abound, billowing and curving softly. The leaves are deeper greens with pale viridian green adding a blue tone and a crisp deep appley green rising up in a sprig of leaves near the back of the flower arrangement. The colors of the ceramic vase echo the rest of the painting with subtle pink flesh toned blooms drooping in little bells against a white background offset by a calm spring green in the tiny majolica leaves.
