About The Artwork

This painting celebrates the feeling of running into the wind as a storm is breaking or is about to break. It is about exhilaration and wildness. The wind in your face and against your skin. It is strength and possibility. I hope that viewers seeing the painting will feel as though they are there. Will be transported to times when they have run or walked and felt the thrill of the elements and the strength in their own bodies driving them forwards. The sense that you are interconnected and one with the world around you. I paint using light fast acrylic ink on a traditional gesso ground on a museum quality surface of birch ply and aluminium subframe. The surface is lightly carved using sandpaper and wire wool and the ink pushed into the surface to create subtle textures and layers. The piece is expressive and free.

Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

I am inspired by light, land, sky, and weather. The paintings are amalgamations of journeys taken on foot by running and walking. They describe and communicate physical, emotional and visual experiences of landscape. I typically emphasise the sky and remove signs of human habitation. By doing this I hope to offer you space to breathe and be, to be immersed or uplifted, to connect with your own memories of landscape. The paintings are made using a traditional gesso ground on birch or poplar. I prepare the gesso surface over a number of days. When I am ready to make a painting, I create texture by painting with the gesso and carving into the surface with wire wool, sandpaper and wood carving tools. Next I work with high quality light fast acrylic inks and push the pigment into the surfaces I have created. Alex has exhibited widely in the UK, working regularly with The Other Art Fair presented by Saatchi Art. She has work in private collections in France, Germany, Norway, the USA, Japan and the UK.
