About The Artwork
Window on War is an original abstract acrylic painting on panel by artist Marlene Struss, protected with satin polymer varnish, signed, wired, cradled in stained wood and ready to hang in your home or office. the predominant colors are redish-brown, green, blue-green, and yellow. Through the "holes" in the earth layer representing bullet or cannon wounds, from our secure position we see the trajectories of weapons of war and the seeming headstones of the fallen victims. Devastation floats above. The sobering colors are bright and contrasting representing stark reality. Though this painting was produced a number of years ago, it is always relevant in a warring world.

I'm a California girl, agnostic product of Catholic schools, and inveterate artist. My art degree is from University of California at Santa Barbara, where I am blessed to still be. Since college I've created bodies of work in pastel, surrealistic collage, abstract collage, digital painting and acrylic painting at present. I've shown mostly locally but have branched out as far as Russia and South Korea, and my work has appeared in several international art books.
