Winston Churchill's Studio Chartwell Painting

Winston Churchill's Studio was painted on location, en plein air, in one session at Chartwell owned by the National Trust. It was painted on a dark miserable winter's day. Which is quite fitting in that Churchill took up painting as an outlet for his “black dog” of depression. You can visit the studio at Chartwell. The studio is home to the largest collection of Churchill's paintings that have been saved for the nation to see and enjoy. With his paints still laid out and a canvas waiting for completion, it looks like Winston has just stepped out the room for a moment.
