Winter's Thaw Painting

This painting is one of my favorites that I have painted. And you'd never guess how it all started. One of the books I am writing is based on the beautiful Alaskan landscape. When I first started writing this book, I had the idea to also paint something that I could have to go along with the story. So, I grabbed my paint brushes, my paints, and a canvas and started painting! But then disaster struck, or so I thought. I had "ruined" the sky by grabbing the wrong brush and painted the "wrong" clouds! Then I tried wiping off the purple paint but only ended up smearing it everywhere. I threw the canvas aside, knowing that I must have just ruined my great idea. My mother saw it later and told me to keep painting, that it would work out just fine. I thought, she couldn't know that it's all messed up. But, I took her advice and kept painting whatever came to mind. First some melting together of warm sunset colors, then tall snowy mountains, then it all fell into place and I had one of the most beautiful landscape paintings I had ever done!
