About The Artwork
Woman in the Hot Tub is a process-driven acrylic painting; meaning, I mix the colors, creating a prospective palette, and apply the first layer of color or underpainting without a preconceived idea, and the successive color layers are determined by the needs of the painting to achieve color harmony, balance, interest, and beauty. I try myriads of painting application techniques, some of which, as in Woman in the Hot Tub, entail spray painting over objects, such as plastic plants and flowers. Apparently while I am doing all this my subconscious and intuition is working in the background because when the process seems complete and my objectives are attained, I often see a suggestion of something from the natural world. In this painting I see a woman in a relaxed but fluid position in the water filling the space behind the foliage. Hence, Woman in the Hot Tub. Do you see her?

I'm a California girl, agnostic product of Catholic schools, and inveterate artist. My art degree is from University of California at Santa Barbara, where I am blessed to still be. Since college I've created bodies of work in pastel, surrealistic collage, abstract collage, digital painting and acrylic painting at present. I've shown mostly locally but have branched out as far as Russia and South Korea, and my work has appeared in several international art books.
