About The Artwork

Painted as part of Rushmoor Borough Council's 'Windows Into The Past' heritage trail, this piece was displayed throughout June 2021 in the original site of Aldershot's most successful music hall, which later became a second hand record shop. This piece represents the experience of music-colour Synaesthesia to the song Words That Say by legendary (and Rushmoor originating) 90s band Mega City Four. The song was chosen as a favourite, with the band having a real personal connection as the frontman Wiz was my partner up until his early death in 2006. This piece represents a connection, peace and love that defies. I use my experience of music-colour Synaesthesia to communicate the son et lumiere that appears in my minds eye when I hear sound. This informs the layers of thinned oil, their positioning and how the merge and work to together to create the overall piece.

Karina Fraser is an abstract artist & mental wellbeing champion based in Hampshire, England. Mountains and travel are a passion whilst her synaesthesia provides a colourful lightshow to the music she hears. Connecting and disconnecting physical and psychological boundaries, these ideas are abstracted into layers; worked together, washed over, to create the calming, joyful and often playful works of art she has become known for. Graduating from Camberwell College of Arts, London in 2004, Karina has since worked as a freelance artist and curator, exhibiting both at home in the UK and internationally whilst working by commission. Most recently Karina has returned from a month long trip to Nepal where she trekked well over 100 miles through the Annapurnas, at altitudes of up to 5500m, creating artwork for those that crowdfunded the trip at the same time being the foil for continued recovery from severe anxiety disorders.
