"YOUR MOVE" - We lived on acres in the open desert back then, where various wild animals roamed freely. Most afternoons a coyote couple stopped by to cool off from the 100-115 degree Fahrenheit temperatures in a shallow concrete trough in the dirt. We often put out meat scraps for them. One day we set up a camera under a large dark cloth behind a bush, hoping to capture close-up photos of them. The male ventured over first, the female following, both sniffing meat. The mechanical shutter in the old film camera we used at the time that made a brief sharp sounds when shooting photos. When we did, the male coyote's head snapped up, his eyes fixed our way, assessing if it was a threat. Luckily we instantly shot that moment and both coyotes, spooked, grabbed up some meat and trotted off, glancing back several times. Once back inside our darkroom, we discovered that we had captured that moment of threat-warning so vivid in the male coyote's eyes. That is what I have captured in this painting, using an expressionistic style with abstracted background, with colors interwoven to relay the moment's intensity.

This completed artwork will be mailed, stretched, with no hardware for hanging or outer frame, but carefully wrapped in protective coverings and a box inside an outer box for added shipping protection. If preferred by the buyer, the painting can be taken off the stretcher and mailed in a tube for less expensive shipping charges.

The painted area measures 40x30 inches on high-quality, sturdy canvas, with a 3/4 inch visible painted sides on all four sides. The highest quality painting materials are used throughout: Golden acrylics and soft gel medium and final varnish coat.

Originally from Manhattan, New York, Ken lived for several decades around the U.S. and Western Europe, always pursuing his writing and painting interests.  He now lives in the Southwestern U.S. that he refers to as, "A magic land of radiant light."  One Los Angeles Weekly art critic noted about Ken's paintings, "This art continually displays a vital interplay of simplified lines interwoven in vibrant complementary colors.  These combinations often create an emotional energy that deftly impacts viewers."  Ken's preferred artistic focus shifts mainly - but not only - between abstract and expressionistic imagery.  In one interview, he stated, "Painting more than writing centers me as a person, and that keeps me awake to vital elements surrounding me.  In my studio, by minimizing daily distractions, at the best of times I capture the gifts of visual energy that depict love or anger, serenity or courage, compassion and freedom, most often with hope for all people.  I cannot think of a better way to share living experiences."
