About The Artwork
Racism has always exsisted from the begging of time. It's is ugly and hateful and will really never go away. It is an issue of the heart. To think that the color of ones skin should determines once worth is very sad and disturbing. Zipporah was the wife of Mosses. She was a women of very dark skin. Because of this she was rejected. She was ostricised, and treated terribly. God saw the ugliness of this and took action. He punished the one who was tormenting her most. This painting portrays Zipporah, I try to show her full of grace and dignity, head held high and stoic even in the face of great heartache. Painting is mixed media on hard thick board mounted on wood. I use 90% recycled materials.

Dominican born artist. I Take inspiration for my work from my countries rich culture and complicated heritage as well as the strong, fearless, women ( my mother and grandmother) who raised me. I also use historical and biblical women for inspiration. My focus is the use of color, texture, found objects , words, to tell a story. I use strong facial expression to relate a feeling, emotion, as well as tell a narrative. I use recycled material as often as I can to do my part for the environment as well as a reminder of the poverty and the need to reuse materials that my mother and grandmother needed to utilize in order to survive. I use paper, fabric, pen, ink, paint, stencils, etc. In most of my work. Makes it interesting and creates lovely texture. I make my own wooden support.
