ABOUT THE ARTWORK
I sought to abstract pop aesthetic, disassembling familiar forms into suggestions, thus demanding of the viewer a deeper emotional engagement. This was my first piece of the series. I call this blend of pop and futurism "catastrophic pop", as if the simulacra has exploded within our memory banks. And I feel this style better reflects our schizophrenic relationship with the bombast of digital mass culture. This is a painting of a collage I made a few years prior. The canvas and its frame were built by myself, in the living room of my Chicago apartment, 2017.
