ABOUT THE ARTWORK
I sought to abstract pop aesthetic, disassembling familiar forms into suggestions, thus demanding of the viewer a deeper emotional engagement. I call this blend of pop and futurism "catastrophic pop", as if the simulacra has exploded within our memory banks. And I feel this style better reflects our schizophrenic relationship with the bombast of digital mass culture. This is a destroyed portrait of Dick Tracy. The canvas and its frame were built by myself, in the living room of my Chicago apartment, 2017.
