The Hollywood Sign, formerly the Hollywoodland Sign, is an American landmark and cultural icon overlooking Hollywood. "HOLLYWOOD" is spelled out in 45-foot (13.7 m) white capital letters and is 352 feet (107.3 m) long. The sign has been a frequent target of pranks and vandalism across the decades, but it has since undergone restoration. In my youth, it was an unspoken rite of passage to trek up the steep dusty hillside to seek solace in the silent company of the letters in their lonely existence. New laws and barriers make this an impossible feat now, hence this nostalgic up-close view redolent of a different era.
