Basia is a Hamburg based artist. Her figurative abstract paintings and drawings blend childlike joy of exploration with freaky beauty. Being aware of constant influences by life and media Basia condenses imagination and its knots during the painting process and works neither with concrete templates nor the observation of outside objects. She uses oil on canvas and ballpoint on paper. Her aim is to overcome realism humorously without being disjointed or creating synthetic secrets. Figures emerge that oscillate between surreal cartoons and classic melancholy depictions. By using the combination of the En face-position, sharp contours and small size canvas the artist confronts the onlooker with naive directness and decorative ambiguity. The sincerity of the characters invites an exploration of the emergence and non-emergence of identity.
Basia studied Fine Arts at University of Fine Arts Hamburg Lerchenfeld. Her works are in private collections worldwide.
