ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This painting has machine cut wood, raised letters that have been sanded, sealed, primed, and meticulously covered in rose gold leaf. The letters are on a mirror that is also covered with layers of gold leaf. The mirror is mounted on a wood panel so the painting can be hung on a wall. The entire surface of the painting is covered with epoxy resin. The 1.5" sides of the wood panel are matching gold - no framing required! The painting is wired and ready to hang. This painting incorporates gold leaf and language. Gold leaf is extremely fragile, messy, and sensitive. It cannot be touched with bare hands; one mistake ruins everything. And like words, gold leaf commands attention. The mirror and epoxy resin used in this series make the paintings heavier, literally increasing their physical weight. Conceptually, this reinforces the idea of words as having great weight of meaning. The epoxy resin additionally adds a reflective quality to the painting; our words are a reflection of who we are.
