Galina Abadzhimarinova is a Bulgarian painter and stage designer. She graduated in Scenography from the National Academy of Arts in Sofia and has spent more than twenty years working in theatre, creating over fifty stage productions for drama and puppet theatres across Bulgaria. Her background in scenography shapes the way she thinks about space, composition, and visual tension. In painting, she moves away from narrative theatre and towards a more intuitive and internal language, where emotion is built through layers of color, form, and contrast. After a long period focused primarily on theatre work, she returned to independent painting with renewed intensity. This return marks a shift from external storytelling to internal states — from stage space to psychological space. Her work is rooted in abstract expression, where structure and intuition coexist. She is interested in contrasts such as presence and absence, stability and fragility, silence and tension, which she explores through organic, layered compositions. Her solo exhibition “Sense” (2026) at Serdica Gallery in Sofia marks her return to the contemporary art scene after a long break from solo exhibitions. She continues to develop a body of work that moves between memory, emotion, and spatial awareness.
