p25 Painting

My main external source for my work is cooking, the sensory experience of preparing food. The things that really excite me are the differences - the constant flux of colour and texture. The sheer joy of all my senses being ‘switched on’. In the studio it’s really the process and remembering with paint - the imagined senses of those smells, sounds, textures and colours. I’m referencing what I’ve experienced in the kitchen. I start off with gestural marks and mark making, the fragments of what I’ve picked up in the kitchen. I’m using them to build a composition like a meal - a visual feast. I work with mainly oils, but also use acrylic and pastel. I'm trying to build layers and create surface textures that make my mouth water.
