About the Artist

Erasmo Torres

Spain

I paint what remains when an image begins to disappear.

My work starts from a simple idea: perception is never complete. We look, remember and reconstruct, but something is always missing.

Through painting and drawing, I remove information rather than trying to describe everything. I simplify figures, erase context, distort familiar forms and allow accidents, mistakes and empty areas to remain visible. I am interested in the moment when an image becomes difficult to identify but somehow continues to feel familiar.

The sources change from one series to another. They can come from memory, anonymous photographs, popular culture or images that have already been reproduced and transformed many times. What interests me is not the original reference itself, but what survives after it has been filtered through perception and painting.

I see painting as a form of reconstruction. The less information I provide, the more space there is for the viewer to complete the image through their own memories and associations.

For me, the work does not end with the painting. It ends differently for every person who looks at it.

The viewer brings the final piece.
