"some days I wander farther" is painted using color stain and color field techniques using professional quality acrylic paint on raw canvas. It is not yet stretched, so it can be shipped rolled and stretched later, or stretched and shipped ready to hang. Note: the final size will be slightly smaller after stretching. "some days I wander farther"was inspired by a homecoming to the late summer season in the high desert of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. After traveling to tropical locations, I was feeling into the colors of the wild place I’ve lived longest and seem to keep coming back to. I am in love with the desert, the sierras, the pines, the junipers, the sage, the raw oxidized earth. The heat of summer, the cool shade. Late summer is also usually the height of the wildfire season, a new staple of the year there, as our earth changes. Whether you see the flame and smoke filled sky, or the change of the aspen leaves for fall, know it is safe to rest here.

Unending curiosity about the outer natural world and the deeper inner world inspires her work through color first and then texture and form. Through color staining, gestural marking, and color field she searches for the feeling the moment or memory held. Deeply inspired by her first viewing of a Rothko as a child and understanding that color holds emotion, she always begins with color. The sunlight behind closed eyelids or the shallow turquoise sea during rainy season, Ms. Elise is more interested in how it makes you feel than what you see. The intersection of climate change and the natural environment, and their impact on how people experience the natural world around them is Ms. Elise’s current interest and is explored in her collections: Bali Air and The Reno Collection. Ms. Elise almost exclusively paints outside on large tarps to contain the paint flow. Acrylics are mixed with substantial amounts of water to allow them to stain and flow across raw canvas, mixing or repelling other colors. She sometimes adds salt to manipulate the paint movement and reactions, and most enjoys watching the breeze move the paint around. Ms. Elise is currently a Teaching Artist with Arts for All Nevada, a non-profit seeking to integrate the exploration of arts and culture into the lives of all. Ms. Elise is open to collaboration and commission work on a case by case basis.
