ABOUT THE ARTWORK

It was like that from the beginning. Opportunities and relationships came unexpectedly and suddenly. After the cold winter, the always hot summer returned, so I thought that the things I had missed would come back again. That’s why I didn’t even try to catch them. ‘Let’s read a book.’ Why? Because I wanted to have many experiences, to see and feel the world, and to know about its diversity. But such promises often fell apart. Because I was busy, the library was too far away to reach, and I would rather hurry my steps toward my destination by passing by the bookstore, and the opportunities to read became as faint as a foggy car window. The moment I was blocked while drawing a new picture, the moment I needed the same book when I had a conversation that needed understanding with someone, my reading was already covered. My meeting with her always seemed to come suddenly. The meeting was a refreshing blue light, and after time passed, the meeting was wrapped in the pink light of the sunset, and it was the same summer. The same season with different time and colors, summer has gone again. The first winter, the memory of whether it was cold or not has already been erased, but the memory of not holding on to the past summer for various reasons and longing for warmth in the winter cold remains like snow. Several years passed and summer came warmly again, but I carelessly let it go once more. Reasons such as having work to do and not having time in my heart fell like sleet, and that winter, only the snow mixed with unpleasant mud and became muddy and sloppy was trampled all around. I missed summer again. If I had held her, would I have felt warmth? - Everything suddenly left. Like a summer day that I had not kept because I thought it would come again, but now it has left and will never come.

Abstraction and fantasy of things taken for granted "There are too many things that are taken for granted in everyday life. For example, female students wearing school uniform skirts instead of pants to school and male politicians not wearing earrings, things that are not taken for granted are always followed by unpleasant gazes. I hope that my paintings will be an opportunity to look at things that were taken for granted with an unusual gaze," he said. Since 2021, artist HanSaem has been continuously sending messages to narrow the gap between things that are considered different, such as men and women, Asians and whites, blacks, and rich and poor, and is breathing new life into fragmented days by slightly twisting the same daily routine.
