Mark Osborne is an artist working with photography and moving image.................... Mark graduated from Edinburgh College of Art with a BA Hons in Fine Art Photography. During his time at art school he has won a D&AD award for photography and awarded the Bulmungo Grant for his last year of study. Mark’s degree show was awarded the Edinburgh Collage of Art Collections Purchase Prize, the first photography to be purchased in the 400-year history of this prestigious collection. His degree show was also selected for the SSA Artist Award, the EAF invited graduate award and Streetlevel Photoworks Futureproof award........................................ Mark's practice utilises various techniques and skills ranging from the photographic darkroom (both in colour and monochrome) analogue and digital photography, studio and location lighting and post-production skills in editing and large-format printing............................................................ Mark works across various styles of photography ranging from portraiture, landscape, studio constructed / installations and more recently new-media moving image. In recent years, he has found himself drawn more to fine art photographic practice where physical creation and interaction of the artwork was just as important as the final presentation........................................................ His photography artwork has developed towards abstraction - exploring the key fundamentals of time, space and form in photography. His study of fictional spaces examines the concept of photography and human existence and the hyper-sense of objects that occupy space. His large-scale works highlight the idea of photography being an object within the digital era. His images play with the dimensional qualities of the photographic surface, opening a visual depth to the viewer and asking questions of what is being seen, how things might appear, how we negotiate, interpret and give meaning............................................................. Mark is based in Glasgow and exhibits nationally and internationally.
