ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The Mingun temple is a monumental uncompleted stupa began by King Bodawpaya in 1790. It was not completed, due to an astrologer claiming that, once the temple was finished, the king would die. Huge cracks are visible on the structure from the earthquake of 23 March 1839 and a recent earthquake made the crumbling structure even more unstable. Myanmar, 2014. Limited Edition of 50 Archival Pigment Prints. *Signed Certificate of Authenticity with Edition Number. *Printed on Hahnemühle Baryta paper, the most enduring of photo papers, which has been a hit with photography aficionados for more than 140 years. This paper is particularly popular with galleries and museums for its shining white and intense black tones, ultra-fine brightness levels and sharp contours. *Printed with a white border for easy framing and shipped in a hard tube protected with bubble wrap and acid-free paper. *Can be framed or mounted under acrylic glass upon request. Larger sizes also available. Contact the artist for more details.

Serge Horta is a documentary photographer based in Ho Chi Minh. He recently relocated to Vietnam after spending nearly two decades capturing the raw essence of life in Hong Kong. Through his academic training in architecture, he is able to capture impossible order amidst the chaos of cities. His photographs are the result of a hypnotic obsession with how different cultures live, adapt and interact with the built environment, from the perfectly manicured suburb to the sprawling slum. His extensive portfolio documents the metamorphosis of the urban landscapes in which he has lived or merely traversed - from Sydney to New York, London to Guangzhou. Amid noise and chaos, Serge manages to find moments of peace and silence.  Having photographed in over 100 countries, we see deeply personal and engaging human stories emerging from what’s often overlooked, making a powerful, penetrating impression on the viewer. Serge’s work is held in private collections in several countries including the United States, Australia, Hong Kong, The Netherlands, UK, Spain, U.A.E., France, and Switzerland.
