An avalanche from the slope of Mount Everest falls on the Khumbu Icefall. View of The Mount Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse. 2009, May 4. The Khumbu Icefall is located at the head of the Khumbu Glacier. It lies at an elevation of 5,486 meters (17,999 feet) on the Nepali slopes of Mount Everest, not far above Base Camp and southwest of the summit. The icefall is regarded as one of the most dangerous sections of the South Col route to Everest's summit. On 18 April 2014, 16 Nepalese climbers were killed by an avalanche in the Khumbu Icefall.
