This photograph was near to Richard's Cambridge home in the Fens, part of his autobiographical series, 'A View of the Fens from the Car With Wings', a journey on the roads of his childhood. Unusually for Richard this is a staged photograph, recreating a childhood memory of his mother wearing this well known Marks & Spencer's 1960's polka dot headscarf. It is typical of his portrait style whereby the viewer projects their own person onto 'Anita', for many it evokes nostalgic memories of their mother. This artwork is a limited edition of 10, gloss photographic print from negative, dry-mounted to aluminium, presented in a museum board white window mount and a black box frame (wooden frame made professionally in the UK). It is signed and numbered on reverse and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.

Although I was brought up in East Anglia, I was heavily influenced by America, I visited American bases, I kept magazine cuttings and I followed drag racing. The speed, lifestyle and technicolour is reflected in my imagery. Colour is a major aspect to my work, it drives my equipment and material choices. I have made many bodies of work, while there are distinctions between them they are all linked somehow. I have exhibited widely, in the early part of my career following an exhibition at the Photographers Gallery in 1989, many of my exhibitions toured Museums and Galleries around England. From 2007 presentation of my work has mostly been at Art Fairs in the UK and worldwide where it has been brought by many international collectors. My piece 'Thrills' was part of the 2018 250th Royal Academy Summer Exhibition.
