ARTIST STATEMENT My work centers on the theme of intimate beauty and its shifting disguises in one's personal experiences and the minutia of daily life. I believe that beauty is to be found within seemingly imperfect objects, places, and experiences, although it is often obscured by layers of preconceived ideas of what's viewed as beautiful. In my work, I pose questions and invite the viewer to step into a space of a feeling rather than a thought, and to search for one's own personal conclusions through an attentive engagement with my artworks. It is my sincere hope that my audience can also experience this almost inexplicable shift of seeing anew what had before seemed imperfect, ubiquitous, or incomplete. BIO Tatiana was born in Poland in a heavily industrial region that had been ravaged by environmental damage and pollution – it was a place where beauty was shrouded in raw, brittle layers of imperfection. During her adolescence, Tatiana witnessed post-communist upheaval and rapid shifts in popular culture as the East was beginning to embrace the West. In her early adulthood, she moved to the United States where she became drawn into the fine arts and started working with mixed media paintings and collages both within the context of formal and informal education. After building up a sizeable body of work, she began presenting in solo and group exhibitions within the Chicago metropolitan area. Concurrently, Tatiana became fascinated with depth psychology and in particular its painting and drawing processes of capturing spontaneous images that carry an implicitly personal narrative. In 2011 Tatiana took a 5-year sabbatical during which she moved to Switzerland and started pursuing photography as her new medium. Today, her photography work has developed to the stage where she has begun showing her images to audiences at large. In the past four years, private collectors in Switzerland and the US have acquired a select number of her limited edition prints and artworks. Tatiana traces her influences and ongoing inspiration to the multilayered, emotive works of Lee Krasner and iconic photographic imagery of Edward Weston. Currently, Tatiana lives in Bern, Switzerland.
