Awaking Sea I is part of an ongoing series entitled, "The Seafarer's Den". The overall body of work is inspired by the artist's first exposure to the West Coast as a young adult, traversing gloomy fisherman hamlets tucked away along the forest laden coasts of northern California. Bucolic towns brimming with fog, salty air and old dory vessels, the foray into a maritime culture so deeply embedded into the local consciousness forever connected with the artist.
"Awakening Sea I" is a capture taken along the California coastline overlooking the side of a local fishing pier. Over the course of several days, the artist lost herself in the patterns of the swirling break, finding enormous beauty in the deep blue as it poetically transitioned into sprawling white bouquets of liquid stretching their branches, as they swept along the pier and collapsed into blankets of delicate sea foam along the shore. The work is intended to impart a romantic sense of losing oneself in the lovely commotion of the constantly changing, great blue abyss.
Each work is printed with pigment-based inks on archival, museum-quality luster paper, providing the highest quality of saturation, rendering deep, rich colors. All papers and inks are tested and selected specifically by the artist. The image also contains an additional one-inch white border on all four sides (beyond the indicated dimensions), in order to provide room for matting purposes.
Each work is set between sheets of glassine paper, provided with a Certificate of Authenticity signed by the artist, securely rolled and shipped inside of a heavy duty tube, hand-packed by the artist.
