Marcus Luconi is a Brazilian fine art photographer born in Santa Rosa, Rio Grande do Sul, in 1953. Raised in São Luiz Gonzaga, in southern Brazil, he belongs to the third generation of photographers in the Luconi family. His first lessons in photography came from his parents, who worked as professional photographers in a small town in the historic Missions region.

After briefly attending the Military Police Academy in Porto Alegre, Luconi chose to pursue a creative path. In 1975, while working as a freelance photographer in Florianópolis, he realized that photography would become his lifelong profession. He subsequently worked as a photographer and journalist, became an advertising photographer and taught photography as a guest instructor at Senac RS.

In 1979, he founded Kromak, a photography company specializing in fashion catalogues and home to one of Brazil’s largest photographic studios at the time. That same year, he began developing his personal body of work, exploring the human figure, artistic nudity and the relationship between the body, nature and memory. His distinctive visual language later attracted the attention of Editora Abril, for which he photographed several essays and covers for the Brazilian edition of Playboy between 1993 and 2004.

From 1987 to 2000, Luconi attended Expo Photo in New York annually, following technological developments and emerging trends in international professional photography. His encounter with fine art photographic printing in the mid-1990s deepened his commitment to photography as an artistic form.

His principal projects include Missões I and II, created among the ruins of São Miguel Arcanjo and inspired by Jesuit history, Guarani culture, myths and legends; Gruta Nova Esperança, portraying the natural presence of women among waterfalls, forests and rocks; Elemental, photographed on color transparency film with medium-format analogue cameras; and Body Way, a black-and-white exploration of feminine intimacy in spaces shaped by tradition, silence and the unhurried rhythm of everyday life.

Through both analogue processes and fine art printing, Luconi creates timeless images in which the human figure becomes part of the landscape—an expression of sensuality, contemplation and connection with the natural world.
