About The Artwork

This was the first image taken of the one of a kind Walt Siegl MV Agusta Bol D'or made specially for jewelry designer David Yurman. Walt Describes the bike: “In my experience, saving weight wherever you can always results in a better performing motorcycle. The weight reduction program for the Bol d’Or starts with the use of high tech composite to replace the plastic OEM bodywork. Using a specially formulated epoxy Kevlar matrix for the newly styled 20 liter gas tank reduces the weight significantly to 3.5 lb. All the bodywork combined (including fairing stay) weighs only 8.5 lb. Additional weight reduction is achieved by our aluminum subframe, the lightweight high performing exhaust system, and our WSM rear sets machined from 7075-T651 aerospace grade aluminum. A ram air system was created to get the best out of the highly tuned 3-cylinder engine. The diameter of the air intakes was increased and they were tucked into the front of the fairing. To get the most out of these modifications and to gain better torque and horsepower, the ECU is flashed with a fully tunable performance program. The experience of riding such a lightweight motorcycle with its razor sharp handling and the engine performance of the legendary MV Agusta technology, engulfed by a sound similar to that of a Formula One car is difficult to put into words. It needs to be experienced.”

Watching, listening and learning from the people that I photograph. The moment shared is often an intimate and vulnerable one. Ensuring that the humanity and dignity of the subject are always maintained is paramount to me. Although not too old, I do consider myself a sort of old-school photographer. I started out sweeping the studio floor, before graduating to printing in the darkroom. I assisted some of the best photographers in the world and learned many lessons. Perhaps the most important was that it’s a tremendous honor when someone allows me to photograph him or her. Photography has given me access to people, situations, and causes that I consider important. Being on the inside and given access to what most people will never have an opportunity to experience makes it all that more important to share. Through images and video, my job is to bring the viewer that much closer, to ask questions and maybe even be moved to action. It could be human rights, marginalized people, maternal health or my long-term project #thebirthlottery. Sharing these stories to help make even the smallest difference is why I put my feet on the ground in the morning and why I strive to make a human connection.
