About the Artist

Lawrence Fawcett

United States

My first introduction to Art was at the age of 3 painting our metal fence and at four gouache painting in the basement. At eight the coolest room in our home was under the staircase where my older brother by 7 years had his darkroom setup. Currently photographing as I travel and working on the images digitally with Photoshop, Corel and with enamels and paint. Previously I had photographed with a Linhof Tecknika and hand worked the 4x5 inch negatives. I have a Bachelor Degree in Fine Art from the California College of Art in the Bay Area and spent summer of 1977 studying Graphics at Parsons in N.Y.
My practice of Art is a way of processing my experiences with complete freedom, having uninhibited fun, and grounding myself with complete detachment from any must outcome. Experimentation and Childlike detachment. No pre judgement. After the photo is taken it is time to let go and feel the image and remember the place in its time. I feel my work may be different and often not the most beautiful in the sense of pleasing and safe. But truthfully each piece I make is really an experiment in time and place. I am more interested in "interesting" and "different" and original and me and mine than I am in making something familiar or purely beautiful, not that those qualities are -or would be faulty -
